Nautical Swimwear

Making Swimwear was a scary thought last summer, but this year I feel like I’ve gotten it down. I decided to start on our swim clothes early this year so I wouldn’t have to worry about making them once the warm weather finally hits.

I got this Beautiful Swim Knit from the amazing Smoogie Fabrics and Designs online custom fabric group. My daughter seriously loves all things scales, swim and water. She saw the print and requested a new swimsuit for herself. The Fly Girl Racing Suit by Winter Wear Designs is quickly becoming a new favorite for me. The ease of making it plus the fit and look on her makes for a beautiful suit!

Next I tackled something that is actually new to me. I was given this amazing boardshort fabric that is also available at Smoogie Fabric and Designs right now. I had never made board shorts before but I was up for the challenge. Using the Surf’s Up Board shorts pattern from Peek a Boo Pattern shop I was able to make a pair for both my boys. They turned out better than I could have imagined. My oldest even said they looked like they were store bough! Always a favorite thing to hear! *Tip when sewing board shorts material, make sure to switch your needle to a woven needle and not ballpoint/knit needle! The Ballpoint/knit needles caused my fabric to “run” in a few places. I was super frustrated at first but once I realized what was going on we were good to go 😉

It was not an ideal day for pictures today, seeing as snow and ice still covered half the ground. But all 3 of my children were champs and pushed through the cold. We made sure to take a big comfy towel out to keep them warm between shots ❤

Thank you for stopping by! Keep and eye out for another post with more beautiful fabrics ❤
