Mommy daughter sets have always been a dream of mine. Before I was sewing I would look on all the websites to find the cutest sets for sis and I. When I started sewing it was like my dream came true, I could make all the Mommy/Daughter sets I wanted. My girl was 5 when I got super into sewing so I am not sure how long I will get her to still go matchy matchy with me, she is 7 now, but I’ll enjoy it while I can 😉
I was recently added to the pattern testing group for my all time favorite pattern group Patterns For Pirates. I was so excited they noticed me and decided to give me a chance. When I got selected to not only sew up my size, but my daughters size too all I could picture was beautiful mommy/daughter dresses!
Our assignments were different at first. Sis was assigned a racer back curved hem dress length while I was assigned 3/4 sleeve curved hem dress length. First I whipped up both of our assignments for fit purposes, and to do my duty as a pattern tester. I absolutely LOVE this dress. Not only is the fit perfect for her but the ease of putting the pattern together, mashing sizes for my skinny but tall girl, and clarity in the directions was perfect. Patterns For Pirates has always been a favorite of mine, and they were actually my very first PDF pattern when I started sewing with knits 2 years ago! Her first dress I made in double brushed poly from Knitpop because she is obsessed with all the “soft” fabric.
Next I made my size. I chose this knit I have been eyeing at Joann Fabrics for months. It was on clearance so I scooped it up. Again, the fit of this on me is amazing. It is seriously so comfortable.
Once I knew both of our sizes were good and the pattern good to go I moved on to our sets. I found this Beautiful Floral 97/3 Rayon Spandex blend at Joann Fabrics. Originally I was planning on making both of ours short dress length so I only bought 3 yards, then I decided I really wanted a maxi! Ha! Lucky for me I was able to get it all to fit in my 3 yards and I am so happy I did. Sis was super excited to see our dresses complete and couldn’t wait to wear them for Easter! Sis is in a short sleeve curved hem dress length and I am in a short sleeve scoop neck Maxi length.
This dress comes with many options. One of my favorite things about all Patterns for Pirates is how much versatility there is with all the patterns. Whether it be the sizes available, mashing sizes, the many options available in nearly every pattern they provide, plus the ease of mashing/modifying them with other P4P Patterns or fun ideas you may come up with ❤

REALLY love all of those! Makes a non-dress-wearer want to wear dresses! ;o)
